Making Financial Education More Approachable

Independent Creator / Prototype Builder

Context

A four-hour conversation helping a friend work through personal finance questions sparked an idea: What if people could access a similarly guided experience without needing to begin with a formal financial services appointment?

Through additional research conversations about money and financial decisions, I encountered recurring themes around uncertainty, fear of making expensive mistakes, and difficulty knowing where to begin.

These observations informed Clarity Coach, an early-stage AI-assisted financial education prototype built using Lovable.

Problem / opportunity

Many people face meaningful financial decisions before they feel ready to seek professional help.

The challenge isn't always a lack of available information. People can have plenty of information and still feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar terminology, competing options, and uncertainty about which questions to ask.

I wanted to explore whether a guided, conversational experience could help people organize their thoughts and identify approachable next steps.

My role

I independently developed the concept and built the initial working prototype.

I was responsible for defining the intended user experience, identifying the questions the product should help users explore, structuring the conversational flow, and translating the concept into a functional prototype using Lovable.

Approach

  • Started with an observed problem. Used themes from financial education conversations to identify where people experienced uncertainty, hesitation, or information overload.
  • Defined a focused product concept. Rather than attempting to build a comprehensive financial platform, concentrated on helping users explore their financial situation through a guided conversation.
  • Designed around user agency. Structured the experience to help users consider their circumstances and possible next steps rather than simply telling them what to do.
  • Translated the concept into a prototype. Used Lovable to build a functional, AI-assisted conversational experience without a traditional engineering build cycle.
  • Explored AI as an interface. Experimented with how conversational interactions could make complex financial topics more approachable.

Impact & takeaways

  • Created a working proof of concept that demonstrates the core guided conversation experience.
  • Translated qualitative observations about financial uncertainty into a tangible product concept.
  • Developed and implemented a conversational user journey focused on helping people organize financial questions and identify next steps.
  • Established a foundation for future usability testing and validation of the core concept.

This project remains an exploratory prototype. No commercial adoption, measured behavior change, or validated user outcomes are being claimed.
